  • "I feel a deep yearning to reconnect with my roots, but I’m not sure where to begin."

  • "I feel like my childhood was taken away from me because I had to grow up too quickly."

  • "I feel guilty for wanting a better life when I know how much my parents sacrificed to get us here."

  • "I can feel the weight of my parents’ struggles, and it sometimes feels like I’m carrying their trauma without even realizing it."

  • "I carry so much guilt knowing my parents worked so hard for a better life, and I fear letting them down."

  • "I feel like I have to be perfect, like every failure is a reflection of my parents’ sacrifices."

  • "I feel like I’m constantly disappointing my parents because their expectations feel so different from the world I’m living in."

  • “I’m constantly trying to preserve their dreams while carving out my own. I feel like I’m holding on to their hopes for a better life, while also trying to create a future that feels true to me.”

  • “I didn’t have a choice but to be the responsible one to ensure everyones safety”

  • “I was not only my families translator but also their teacher as they navigated a new country”

and I’ve lived many of the experiences shared above. Being first-gen comes with so much that’s hard to put into words. The weight of your parents’ sacrifices, the pressure to make them proud, the guilt of wanting something different than what they dreamed for you. It’s a lot. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spent years trying to balance honoring where you come from with figuring out who you are outside of it.

I’m a first-generation Latine daughter of two Colombian immigrants who came to the U.S. in search of the American Dream. I know what it’s like to carry their resilience while also questioning the cycles that may no longer serve you. To feel both deep gratitude and quiet resentment. To be the one everyone leans on while wondering, who’s there for me?

In our work together, we’ll make space for all of it. The love, the grief, the responsibility, the longing for a life that feels like yours, not just the one expected of you. You don’t have to carry it all alone. We’ll untangle the stories, the cycles, and the weight of it all so you can move through life feeling more connected, more understood, and more at home within yourself.

Frequently asked questions

  • Culturally sensitive therapy means creating a space where all parts of your identity, history, and lived experience are welcomed, honored, and seen.

    • Acknowledging your cultural context: I understand that your culture, family values, and traditions deeply shape who you are and these are unique to you. I find that taking time to slowly uncover these layers support our journey in working together.

    • Recognizing the nuances: I hold space for the complexities of being part of multiple worlds whether you feel pulled between your family's expectations and your own needs or experience pressure to succeed in ways that honor their sacrifices.

    • Using a nonjudgmental approach: This is a space where you don’t have to explain or justify your experiences. I respect, honor and will always acknowledge your experiences and perspective.

    • Centering your voice: I work collaboratively, so our sessions reflect your values, goals, and hopes for healing. Ultimately this is your space and I want to honor where you want to go.

  • I speak Spanish and English. In session I am happy to offer services in either language or a blend of the two.

  • Decolonial and liberation therapy are approaches that aim to challenge and heal from the harmful effects of systemic oppression, colonization, and power imbalances that influence how we view ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us.

In decolonial therapy, we explore how colonial histories, such as the impacts of racism, imperialism, and cultural erasure. Along with how these systems continue to shape your life, identity, and experiences. The focus is on reconnecting with your roots, reclaiming cultural wisdom, and challenging internalized beliefs formed by oppressive systems. It’s about unlearning harmful narratives and creating new pathways for healing that honor your ancestral strength and wisdom.

Liberation therapy is rooted in the belief that true healing happens when we address not only individual struggles but also the larger systems that create and perpetuate injustice. It’s about breaking free from societal expectations, oppressive norms, and personal limitations. In our work together, we’ll explore how you can liberate yourself from limiting beliefs, harmful family dynamics, and the emotional toll of systemic barriers, empowering you to live authentically and unapologetically.

In both approaches, I center your voice, your identity, and your lived experiences. Helping you reclaim your personal power while also acknowledging the external systems that affect your mental, emotional, and physical health. Our work together will honor both your personal healing and your broader sense of justice and freedom.

  • Yes! I am happy to offer therapy intensives. To learn more about what they journey may look like feel free to click on this link! I offer multiple different intensives routes.

  • Yes, I absolutely welcome the use of storytelling and other culturally resonant methods in our work together. Storytelling is a powerful way to reconnect with both your personal and ancestral narratives. Whether it’s sharing stories passed down through generations or exploring your own, storytelling can provide clarity, healing, and a deeper understanding of your life experiences.

I also invite you to bring in anything that holds meaning for you whether it's a ritual, a cultural practice, or an object that holds personal significance.

For some clients, it feels safe and meaningful to bring in materials for a personal limpia (a spiritual cleansing). This practice, rooted in cultural traditions, can be an important part of one's emotional and mental journey. If this practice resonates with you, we can explore it together as part of our work, helping you release emotional blockages, clear negative energy, and restore balance.

In therapy with me, you’re welcome to integrate any materials or practices that support your healing process. I’m here to honor your journey and create a safe, nurturing space for whatever feels aligned with your path toward healing.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): EMDR is a powerful tool I use to help process past trauma and emotional wounds through bilateral stimulation. It's especially supportive for individuals and couples navigating intergenerational trauma. We can use this approach to explore feelings of identity conflict, cultural loss, and the impacts of your family's migration story in a safe and healing way.

Brainspotting (BSP): Brainspotting is a body-focused approach I use to help release deeply held trauma stored in the nervous system. It’s particularly helpful for adult children of immigrants as we navigate the emotional weight of your dual identities, family expectations, and cultural dissonance. Through BSP, we can access and release trapped energy, helping you restore emotional balance and healing.

IFS (Internal Family Systems): I use IFS to help you identify and heal the various parts of yourself, such as your inner child, cultural parts, and internalized beliefs formed by your experiences. This approach creates space to explore the complex layers of being an adult child of immigrants—acknowledging internal conflicts between family dynamics, cultural identity, and personal values. It fosters self-compassion and allows you to build healthier relationships with all parts of yourself.
